Dear Parents and Students,

We are excited to welcome you back to another exciting school year at Sand Ridge Junior High! We hope you had a restful summer and are ready to embark on a new academic adventure. Here are some important details and dates to help you start the year on the right foot:

*The school’s website, with its accompanying calendar, is always very up-to-date and it can be the easiest way to quickly find the answers you’re looking for. https://sandridge.wsd.net/

Key Dates:

  • Back-to-School Night: Monday, August 19, from 4:30-6:30 PM.
    • Please note that we will be in the middle of 7th-grade orientation before 4:30, so plan to arrive no earlier than 4:30.
    • A flyer will be sent via text.
  • First Day of School: Wednesday, August 21, at 7:45 AM.
    • School will be dismissed at 1:15 PM throughout the entire first week.
  • Bus Routes: Bus routes are currently in flux and should be finalized by August 19.
    • Please remind your student to check their bus number before the first day. Many students are often unsure which bus to take at the end of the first day, and it can be difficult for us to look up this information quickly for multiple students.
  • Girl's Softball Tryouts: Right after school on the first day of school.
    • Please ensure your student brings appropriate clothing and equipment.
  • Picture Day: Friday, August 23, during school hours.
    • Students will be escorted from their English classes to have their pictures taken.
    • These pictures will be used for student IDs and the yearbook.
    • A separate email with picture package details will be sent soon.
  • Early-Out Wednesdays: Starting this year, every Wednesday will be an early-out day, with school dismissed at 1:15 PM.
    • Teachers will use this time for planning, preparation, and assessing student progress. This year, there will be no advisory class. Instead, all classes on Wednesdays will focus on remediation for students who need additional support and extension activities for those who have met the standards.

Student Schedules: Student schedules are now available to view on PowerSchool. Please remember:

  • Schedules may change at the semester break in January, as some classes are only half-year courses.
  • *Schedule changes will not be made until Monday, August 26, to allow us to determine which courses are full and which have space.
    • Exceptions for schedule changes will only be made for errors such as students not receiving special education services or having the same class twice in one day.

Registration and Fees: If you haven't already, please be sure to register your student for the upcoming school year and pay the necessary registration fees.

  • If you believe you may qualify, you are welcome to apply for a fee waiver. The application will provide information on the required documentation.

Free or reduced lunch: Additionally, please complete the free and reduced lunch application as soon as possible.

  • Note that eligibility from the previous year does not carry over, and a new application must be submitted each year.

Policies to Remember:

  • Please review and adhere to the district's electronics (cell phone, etc) and dress code policies.
  • Bikes, scooters, and skateboards must be left outside the building. We have racks available to lock up these items.

Communication: Please be aware that while our office is open from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, teachers and counselors have not yet started their contracts for the year. As a result, emails sent to them will most likely remain unanswered until they return. For any immediate concerns or questions, we encourage you to visit our school's website, which is regularly updated with important information, dates, and applications. You can also access our school's Google Calendar directly from the website and even add it to your personal calendar to stay informed throughout the year.

We look forward to a successful school year and are excited to partner with you to make a difference in your child's life through knowledge and growth.

Sincerely,

Quinn Talbot
Principal
